Midori Sushi: a new look for 27 years of authentic sushi in Austin

A website refresh for an authentic Austin sushi restaurant established in 1999. We are bringing its 27-year history and 210-item menu into a new online experience.

The shop

Midori Sushi has served sushi in Northwest Austin, Texas since 1999.

The menu is the product

We worked from the restaurant's official menu: ten source images, which became 24 sections and 210 entries, including beverages and the separate gluten-free preparations.

Where the standard and gluten-free versions differ in price, both prices are kept. Where the official menu does not list a price, such as lunch and bento details, we did not fill the gap with a guess. The page points guests to the hours and the phone instead.

Guests can filter by category and search by dish name or ingredient. Search runs in the browser, so it costs the restaurant nothing per query.

Two directions

  • Washi & Bento: large food photography, paper panels and a layout that borrows the compartments of a bento box.
  • Timber & Tradition: warm timber, a sushi boat, and a scroll story that counts up to 1999.

Both directions include a switch to pause motion, respect the system's reduced motion setting, and work without JavaScript. Ordering stays with the restaurant's official ordering services. The site links to them.
